PHYSIOTHERAPY-LED PERSONAL TRAINING IN QUEENSTOWN
Avi has spent ten years as a qualified physiotherapist, working in neurorehabilitation and elite sport, including a stint as physiotherapist for the Southern Steel netball team, before bringing that background into personal training at OC Health Clubs.
She trains members the way she once treated patients. Watching closely. Adjusting in real time. Building every session around how a body actually moves, not just what it can lift.
If you've ever wanted a coach who notices things before they become a problem, this is what working with Avi feels like.
A well-functioning body is the ideal body.
A clinical background, brought to the training floor
Avi's path into coaching didn't start in a gym either. It started in Denmark, where cycling everywhere and staying active isn't a lifestyle choice, it's simply how the country is built. That early relationship with movement carried her into physiotherapy, a career she has now held for over ten years.
Her early career sat inside neurology. She worked hands on with acute neuro-trauma patients and later managed a large neurorehabilitation centre, helping people rebuild physical ability from the ground up. It gave her a deep respect for how closely the brain and the body are connected, a connection she still trains around today.
From there she moved into elite sport, working as physiotherapist for the Southern Steel netball team. It's where her interest in sports physiotherapy and athletic performance properly took hold, and where her neurological background found a second use, managing concussion and helping athletes find calm before they walked onto the court.
It's also where her eye for biomechanics and movement quality comes from. At OC, Avi brings that same clinical attention to personal training, building every member's programme around how their body actually moves, inside the same OC Health House framework that guides every member's journey.
Sound familiar?
A knee that's never quite right. A shoulder that flares under load. Ten years as a qualified physiotherapist mean Avi builds your programme around how your body moves now, not a generic template.
Avi spent years as physiotherapist for the Southern Steel netball team. If you used to train at a higher level and want that capability back, she knows exactly what that road looks like.
Avi's early career was spent in neurorehabilitation, helping people rebuild physical ability from the ground up. That same patience and structure carries into every session, whatever you're working back from.
Nutrition is the Health House pillar Avi finds most fascinating. She helps members connect what they eat to how they train, sleep, and recover, no restriction, just awareness.
Function over form
You'll hear this a lot around OC. The goal was never to chase exhaustion. It's to understand how your body actually moves, then train it with that in mind.
Avi's approach is built on that idea. Ten years as a physiotherapist taught her that a body which functions well lasts longer than one chasing a particular look. To Avi, a well-functioning body is the ideal body, and that belief shapes every programme she builds, using biomechanics and real-time form correction rather than guesswork.
The goal isn't to leave every session wrecked. It's to leave understanding your own movement a little better than when you walked in, with a foundation that holds up off the training floor too, in line with OC's wider commitment to Form Over Fatigue.
What members can expect
No generic structure. No pushing through pain to hit a number. Just a plan built around what your body actually needs.
Avi believes training is only part of the picture. That's why conversations often include:
Yes. Avi has been a qualified physiotherapist for over ten years, and that background means programmes are built around your injury history and current movement, not against it.
Yes. Years spent helping people rebuild physical ability from the ground up in neurorehabilitation taught Avi how to meet people exactly where they are, whatever their starting point.
Yes. Avi spent years as physiotherapist for the Southern Steel netball team, and understands what it takes to safely rebuild athletic capability after a break.
Nutrition is the Health House pillar Avi finds most fascinating, and conversations naturally include how food affects training, sleep, and recovery. This is general guidance rather than formal nutrition coaching.
Every OC member starts with a consultation covering goals, injury history, and movement background before any programme is built.
Her combination of physiotherapy experience, including neurorehabilitation and elite sport, with personal training is rare to find in one coach in Queenstown.
Most people already know an old injury or a stiff joint isn't going to fix itself.
The challenge isn't knowing you should move better. It's having someone who actually understands how your body works, and why.
That's what Avi is here for.
Whether you're looking to build strength, improve your fitness, increase your longevity or simply find a way to give back to your body and find some time for you, we have the perfect solution.
