WHAT IS PILATES?
Most people think of Pilates as an abs class. It's not. It's a method for developing deep core stability, postural control, and body awareness that underpins every other physical activity you do, from lifting in HYPER to hiking a trail on the weekend.
OC Health Clubs Pilates classes in Queenstown apply classical principles alongside a contemporary understanding of biomechanics. The result is sessions that are precise, purposeful, and genuinely transferable to the rest of your life.

Your coach provides continuous cues throughout. Refining your position, breath, and activation with every exercise. Pilates rewards attention to detail, and our coaches are there to help you find it.

Sessions combine classical mat-based Pilates with resistance bands, rings, and small props. The variety keeps the method fresh while targeting different aspects of stability and control.

Ten perfect repetitions beat fifty sloppy ones every time. The pace of a Pilates session is deliberate, you won't be rushing through reps, you'll be learning to do each one properly.

Deep core activation and postural alignment are built into every exercise. Over time, this translates into less pain, better posture, and a body that moves more efficiently in everything you do.

Pilates develops proprioception, your sense of where your body is in space. This awareness carries over into every other class, every sport, and every physical movement in your daily life.

Whether you've never done Pilates before or have years of practice, sessions are adapted to your level. Every exercise has a progression and a regression, your coach will meet you where you are.
HOW A SESSION WORKS
Every session begins with breathing and deep core activation, establishing the connection between breath and movement that underpins everything in Pilates.
Controlled spinal mobility and joint preparation to get the body ready for precise, deliberate movement.
A coached sequence of classical and contemporary Pilates exercises: mat work, small equipment, or a combination. Your coach cues every movement, ensuring quality throughout.
A closing stretch and integration sequence to lengthen what's been worked and settle the nervous system. You'll leave feeling taller, lighter, and more aware of your body.

Frequently Asked Questions
Not at all. Pilates was originally developed by a man, Joseph Pilates, and was first used with male athletes and dancers. Core stability, postural control, and body awareness are relevant to everyone, and many of our strongest Pilates members are men who started sceptical.
Pilates is widely used for back pain management and rehabilitation. It develops the deep core stability and postural awareness that addresses many of the root causes of back pain. That said, please mention any existing conditions during your initial consultation so your coach can programme appropriately.
Pilates develops the stability, body awareness, and movement quality that heavier training often bypasses. Members who add Pilates alongside HYPER or HYBRID typically notice improvements in their form, fewer niggles, and better recovery. It fills the gaps that strength and conditioning training leaves.
Getting started begins with a free consultation, a no-pressure conversation about your goals, your history, and what's worked or hasn't before. From there, we build your personalised plan across training, nutrition, and sleep, complete a baseline assessment, and get you into your first session. No guesswork, no figuring it out alone.
Yes, and you're exactly who OC was built for. Our coaches adapt every session to where you are right now, not where you think you should be. Whether you're returning after years away or starting from scratch, you'll receive the same personalised attention and coaching as every other member.
At a regular gym, you pay a fee to hire equipment, then you're on your own. At OC Health Clubs, every session is coach-led. Your trainer knows your goals, your injuries, and your history. Your programme is built around you, your progress is tracked every six weeks, and if you don't show up, we check in. That's why our attendance rate is 92%, compared to an industry average of around 30%.
Absolutely. Tell us about your injuries during your initial consultation and we'll build your programme around them. Our coaches are experienced in working with members managing back issues, knee problems, shoulder injuries, and chronic pain. Adapting movements in real time so you can train safely and make progress without setbacks.
OC offers two pathways: a Group Classes membership with unlimited coached sessions per week, and a Personal Training membership with up to three personalised sessions per week. Both begin with a 28-day programme designed to build your foundation. Pricing is discussed during your free consultation so we can recommend the right option for your goals and schedule.
We run 60+ sessions every week at our Queenstown facility, from 5:45am through to 7:30pm. Early enough for before-work training, flexible enough to fit around most schedules. Most members train three times per week. Your coach will help you find a routine that works for your lifestyle.
