Goal setting. The architect who draws the plan before the house is built.

Every other pillar in the Health House depends on this one coming first. Here's why a clear, specific goal is the blueprint everything else gets built against, and how we help you set one that actually holds.

GOAL SETTING

Why goals fail, and the one shift that fixes it

Motivation isn't the problem. Here's what decades of behavioural research say about why goals fail, and the simple planning shift that fixes it.

The Architect, and How We Build It

Goal setting draws the plan before anything else gets built. In the OC Health House, every other pillar depends on this one coming first. Sleep, Nutrition, Exercise and Environment all need something to be built towards, otherwise effort has no direction and progress has nothing to measure itself against.

We do not ask members to guess at what success looks like. One clear focus, set at the start: a specific 28-day goal, backed by a 12-month vision. It is the first thing every member commits to during induction, written down before Day 1, and it is what every other habit gets measured against as the weeks stack.

Frequently asked questions

Goal setting questions from our Queenstown personal training members

What actually happens during goal setting at induction?

Before your 28-Day Programme begins, you sit down with a coach and set two things, a specific 28-day goal and a 12-month vision. Be specific, your goal anchors everything that follows, from your weekly focus to how your coach shapes your sessions.

Why does OC ask for a 12-month vision, not just a 28-day goal?

Real change takes longer than four weeks. The first 28 days build the foundation, months two, three and four are where everything compounds. Your 12-month vision is what keeps the direction consistent once the initial programme ends and you roll onto ongoing membership.

How is my goal actually measured?

At induction you complete an Evolt bio-scanner test and baseline strength assessments, dead hang, wall sit, and plank hold. In exactly four weeks, you retest the same three numbers. The scanner does not lie, your strength tests do not lie, so your goal has real evidence behind it, not just a feeling.

What if I do not know what my goal should be yet?

That is exactly what the induction conversation is for. Your coach asks what success looks like for you and helps you turn that into something specific and measurable. You are the architect, but you do not design the blueprint alone.

Does my goal stay the same for the whole 28 days?

Your 28-day goal stays fixed as the target, but each week adds one new focus underneath it, exercise, then sleep, then nutrition, then environment. Each layer stacks on the last, so by day 28 you are working from a complete system, not just a single habit.

Who holds me accountable to the goal I set?

Your coach does, and so does the room. On your retest Saturday, everyone who started alongside you is back at the same time, retesting the same numbers. We hold each other accountable, and if you go quiet for a week, we follow up. That is part of why our attendance rate sits at 92 percent, against an industry average closer to 30 percent.
