9. The Last Thing You See Before Bed Matters More Than You Think

What’s the Last Thing You Put in Your Mind Before Sleep?

Just this year, a member came to me exhausted. He was sleeping 7-8 hours a night, but he never woke up feeling rested.

We went through his routine, and one thing stood out: he was on his phone right up until he closed his eyes.

Scrolling. Watching videos. Reading the news. His mind was full of stimulation—fast, unpredictable, and often negative content.

The problem? What you feed your brain before bed carries over into your sleep.

Your Brain Doesn’t Shut Off—It Plays Back What You Give It

Think of your brain like a sponge—it absorbs whatever you put into it.

If the last thing you do is scroll through social media, watch rapid-cut videos, or read stressful news, your mind doesn’t get the signal to slow down. It stays wired.

But if you replace that with destination instead of stimulation, everything changes.

Choose Destination, Not Stimulation

Instead of short, fast, chaotic content, focus on something that guides your mind toward rest.

Try this instead:

  • Read a book – Slow, steady, and calming.

  • Write down three good things from your day – Signals to your brain that life is good.

  • Visualise your goals – Let your mind drift toward something positive.

By feeding your brain something intentional instead of reactive, you set yourself up for better sleep and a better tomorrow.

The Bottom Line

Your last thought before bed isn’t just a thought—it’s the foundation of your sleep.

So tonight, ask yourself: Am I stimulating my mind or guiding it toward rest?

Choose wisely.
